A full line pharmaceutical wholesaler/distributor of medicines, surgical, clinical and consumer products in Namibia has a vacancy for a: Clinical Specialist


Overview:

The Clinical Specialist will play a critical role in the assessment, treatment and management of patients with acute or chronic wounds and to provide clinically appropriate, holistic care to ostomates. The Clinical Specialist will provide direct patient care, procurement of products, supplier relations and promotes best practices in wound management to optimise patient outcomes whilst growing the Nampharm Surgical department.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent tertiary qualification – BCur Nursing Science
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience, with a focus on wound care and/or related specialties (e.g., medical-surgical nursing, critical care, home health).
  • Minimum 3 years demonstrated successful sales experience in the medical field.
  • Code B Driver's License and Grade 12 is compulsory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with sales and marketing teams, procurement, and other internal stakeholders to develop and implement effective sales and marketing strategies. Collaborate on promotional materials, presentations and marketing campaigns tailored to the nursing audience.
  • Stay updated on developments in nursing practice, medical advancements, and relevant healthcare regulations. Participate in training programs, conferences, and professional development activities to enhance product knowledge and sales skills.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients with acute or chronic wounds, including detailed evaluation of wound characteristics, such as size, depth, appearance, and presence of infection. Use specialised tools and techniques to measure and document wound dimensions and tissue types.
  • Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare providers to develop individualised treatment plans based on the underlying aetiology of the wound, patient's medical history and available resources.
  • Perform advanced wound care & clinical procedures, such as wound cleansing, debridement (sharp or enzymatic), application of topical medications, negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and specialised dressing techniques.
  • Educate patients, family members and caregivers about the importance of proper wound care techniques, wound healing process, signs of wound complications and preventive measures to minimise the risk of recurrence. Provide instructions on wound dressing changes, medication administration and lifestyle modifications to support wound healing.
  • Assess and manage wound-related pain using evidence-based pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions. Monitor patient response to pain management strategies and collaborate with the healthcare team to adjust treatment plans as needed to optimise pain control and comfort.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of wound assessments, treatment interventions, patient responses, and outcomes in electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Generate reports, progress notes and discharge summaries to communicate patient status and care plans effectively.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

  • Proficiency in wound assessment techniques, wound care procedures, and utilization of wound care products and equipment.
  • Specialized knowledge of appropriate legislation and strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and patient education skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team and adapt to changing patient needs and clinical environments
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office Applications, Financial, analytical, interpersonal, decision making and negotiating acumen required.
