MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Manage the Mining operations by implementing operational improvement plans and ensure compliance with safety regulation, procedures and processes to meet the strategic objectives and mining production targets..

Key Performance Areas:

• Develop and manage the Swakop Uranium (SU) Mining Production Management plan, systems, policies, procedures, control standards, measures, and programmes, aligning them with strategic business and mining objectives.
• Coordinate and monitor operational effectiveness against long- and short-term mine plans.
• Interpret and apply all relevant mining statutory requirements, regulations, and standards.
• Promote, manage, and recommend changes to mining policies and strategies to facilitate compliance by employees and contractors.
• Identify, implement, and apply best-practice production and maintenance strategies, standards, systems, and monitoring mechanisms to achieve production goals.
• Establish annual productivity measurements, including Tons/HR, operational availability, $/ton, diesel consumption, powder factor, drill bit performance, and tyre wear.
• Conduct and manage internal mining policy, procedure, and code of practice audits.
• Ensure audit recommendations are implemented in compliance with applicable insurance standards and current legislation.
• Provide leadership in implementing all safety requirements and ensure adherence thereto.
• Compile the overall mining labour and operations budget in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Establish and maintain relationships with external contractors, specialists, suppliers, software providers, regulatory authorities, and customers, providing assistance with problems that may arise and ensuring cost-effective, quality service.
• Liaise with internal management and other colleagues to establish workflows, including release dates, releasing orders, dates, and cash flow management.
• Participate in benchmarking studies to identify areas for potential operational improvement.
• Keep abreast of developments, implement new knowledge and information, and introduce changes to work processes where appropriate.
• Set performance standards in accordance with the performance management system and annual performance management agreements for applicable subordinates, and conduct interim performance reviews.
• Develop and implement career and succession plans to improve section and individual effectiveness.

Requirements and experience:

• BSc Mining Engineering Degree or similar qualification.
• Postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Management, or a relevant field will be an added advantage.
• 12 years’ working experience in an open-pit mining environment, of which at least 5 years should have been at Senior Management level.
• Experience in project and contract management.
• Sound mine planning and production experience.
• Valid Code B/BE Driver’s Licence.
