MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To manage and co-ordinate mining production and maintenance operations and activities to ensure that production and quality targets are achieved in a safe manner and in line with environmental standards.


Key Performance Areas:

  • Manage the mining operation process and provide technical support to ensure optimum process availability, operational performance, and achievement of company goals and profitability targets.
  • Manage the implementation of safety programs and ensure all safety objectives are achieved.
  • Plan, manage, and control productivity levels for all mining equipment.
  • Conduct thorough shift handovers to ensure safe, timely, and effective shift start-ups.
  • Manage the activities of the Drilling, Blasting, Loading, Hauling teams, and Blasting Contractor.
  • Liaise with operational teams to ensure all SHER-related operational issues are addressed effectively and timeously.
  • Improve operational effectiveness within drill and blast, loading, and hauling sections through the implementation of innovative tools and techniques.
  • Coordinate contractor activities to ensure designated objectives are achieved.
  • Motivate team members through effective communication and conflict resolution.
  • Identify training needs and recommend development initiatives to maximize team potential.
  • Ensure all drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling activities comply with legal, statutory, and operational requirements at all times.

Requirements and experience:

  • BSc / B.Tech Degree in Mining Engineering (NQF Level 7).
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in an open pit mining environment, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience in drilling and blasting techniques within hard rock open pit mining operations.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience in truck and shovel loading and hauling activities in hard rock open pit mining operations.
  • Contractor management and project management experience.
  • Open Pit Blasting Certificate (Permanent or Provisional).
  • Registration with the Engineering Council of Namibia will be an added advantage.
  • Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License.
