MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To provide expertise and leadership in conducting geophysical surveys, data interpretation and providing technical expertise in the exploration and production at Swakop Uranium’s (SU) while ensuring the safety, efficiency, and integrity of mining operations..

Key Performance Areas:

• Collect precise data of minerals using sophisticated and sensitive instruments.
• Analyze geological and geophysical data to identify potential mineral deposits or resource targets.
• Interpretation of geophysical data to delineate geological features, anomalies, and potential mineralization zones.
• Integrate geophysical findings with geological information to develop comprehensive models of subsurface structures and mineralization.
• Manage the Probing team and advise on the corrective actions to ensure the integrity of data collected.
• Oversee geophysical survey activities conducted in the field, ensuring adherence to survey protocols and safety standards.
• Monitor data acquisition processes and address any technical issues or deviations from the survey plan.
• Participate in the planning and design of exploration programs to assess the viability of potential mining sites.
• Provide input on geophysical survey methods and techniques suitable for exploration objectives.
• Provide input into the geology geophysical section budget and cost control processes.
• Prepare the required geological reports, legal register, and statistics to comply with all company and statutory/external requirements.

Requirements and experience:

• Grade 12 or current NSSCO with 20 points over 5 subjects.
• BSc. Hons Degree in Geophysics, Geological Engineering, or BSc. Geology degree or related.
• 5 years’ open pit mining working experience, of which 2 years should be in a senior/supervisory role.
• Postgraduate qualification and other industry experience will be an advantage.
• Experience in structural & stratigraphic mapping and application of seismic or radiometric data in stratigraphic mapping.
• Experience in geophysical survey designs, logging system, and data manipulation.
• Knowledge and working experience in design, testing, modification, and repair of geophysical equipment.
• Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License.
• 4x4 driving know-how is an added advantage.
