PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

To safely and accurately plan welding process on steel structures in a leader position, to the highest level of workmanship and quality in order to satisfy the needs and requirements of our company and clients.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Accurately plan and organize task execution in accordance with standard operating procedures, drawing specifications, company standards, and supervisor instructions.
• Ensure correct weld preparation as per drawing and weld procedure specifications.
• Comprehensive understanding of weld procedures and symbols.
• Interpret and apply relevant codes and standards.
• Operate and maintain welding equipment effectively and safely.
• Tack materials for welding and ensure correct alignment.
• Adjust amperage settings based on welding position and plate thickness.
• Clean tack welds and deposit root runs as required.
• Remove tack welds as welding progresses and inspect for cracking or wagon tracks.
• Deposit filler runs with proper metal and slag control to ensure defect-free welds with good sidewall fusion.
• Inspect welds for slag entrapment and remove defects before proceeding.
• Deposit sealing runs, clean final welds of all spatter and flux, and inspect for defects.
• Ensure distortion control during welding to maintain alignment and accuracy.
• Understand radius corners and weld intersections specific to Marine and Offshore applications.
• Perform basic cutting, grinding, flange fitting, and alignment tasks.
• Conduct oxy-acetylene cutting, pipeline purging, and weld defect rectification.
• Perform DPI testing and apply correct weld sequencing and backstep methods.
• Create quality welds in accordance with blueprints and technical drawings.
• Monitor project costs, estimate time requirements, and manage resource utilization effectively.
• Develop plans for completing own and team projects efficiently.
• Supervise boilermakers, plan and organize workloads, and assign tasks to meet objectives.
• Monitor individual and team performance, report on project progress, and conduct post-project evaluations.
• Ensure accurate fit-up and fabrication of pipes using various materials (mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, etc.).
• Interpret and apply technical drawings accurately.
• Compile and submit technical project reports as required.
• Understand and comply with class society regulations relevant to Marine and Offshore operations.
• Ensure accurate fit-up and fabrication of structural components.
• Ensure accurate fit-up and repair of vessel hull structures and plating specific to Marine and Offshore standards.

Minimum Qualification & Experience Requirement:

• Grade 12 with English, Mathematics, and Science
• National Engineering Certificate (Level 3) with Trade Test
• At least 6 years of post-trade experience in a welding and steel fabrication environment, including 3 years in a lead or supervisory role
• Coded up to G6
