PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

To design, evaluate, and supervise welding operations, ensuring the integrity and quality of welds in accordance with engineering standards, codes, and project requirements. Welding Engineers play a critical role in a variety of manufacturing projects, working on the design and maintenance of welding systems, utilizing advanced techniques like laser technology, training welders, and continuously improving welding processes for efficiency and quality.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure development and qualification of welding process procedures, supplier qualifications, and testing protocols to ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
  • Create repair procedures and assess flaws or defects to determine the fitness-for-service of structures and components.
  • Ensure welding, heat treatment, hardness testing, inspection, and non-destructive testing comply with relevant codes and specifications.
  • Manage welding operations and troubleshoot issues during projects, providing corrective solutions to optimize processes.
  • Evaluate and fine-tune processes during welding projects to enhance performance, quality, and productivity.
  • Coordinate with engineering staff and liaise with clients on welding requirements.
  • Raise non-compliance reports where applicable and ensure they are satisfactorily closed.
  • Investigate welding-related issues to improve product performance and increase productivity across manufacturing processes.
  • Assess welding flaws or challenges, developing strategies to resolve issues and ensure long-term structural integrity.
  • Welding Process Selection and Optimization: Determine appropriate welding methods (e.g., MIG, TIG, stick welding) and materials for each project to optimize production speed and quality.
  • Material and Consumable Planning: Specify required materials (metals, gases, consumables) and plan efficient stock levels to minimize downtime and waste.
  • Fixture and Tooling Design: Collaborate on the design and arrangement of jigs, fixtures, and tooling to ensure weld consistency and quality while maximizing productivity.
  • Weld Sequence and Scheduling: Develop detailed welding sequences and schedules that align with production timelines and minimize distortion, rework, or bottlenecks.
  • Quality Control and Testing: Establish quality control measures (such as non-destructive testing) and inspection points to ensure welds meet safety and quality standards.
  • Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS): Create and review WPSs with detailed guidelines on welding processes, materials, techniques, and parameters for each project.
  • Adaptation to Environmental Conditions: Assess environmental factors (e.g., wind, temperature, humidity) that may affect welding and propose mitigation strategies to maintain quality.
  • Logistics and Equipment Coordination: Ensure logistics for materials, consumables, and equipment meet standards and operating procedures.
  • Joint Preparation and Fit-Up Plans: Specify site-based processes for joint preparation, alignment, and fit-up to accommodate field conditions and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Inspection and Documentation: Set up onsite quality checks and documentation processes to verify compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Lead efforts to implement the latest welding technologies and techniques to achieve superior results.
  • Evaluate and integrate new welding equipment, systems, and techniques to improve efficiency and output in manufacturing environments.
  • Provide training to welders on new techniques, processes, or design changes, ensuring continuous skill development and adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Mentor and guide welding teams in the implementation of innovative welding processes and methods.
  • Construct estimates for welding based on sound judgments and real-world experience.
  • Aim to complete all tasks correctly the first time in the most cost-effective and efficient manner.
  • Mentor and Lead: Mentor a team of welding specialists fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and professional development to welding staff.
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet project requirements and company goals.
  • Manage and enforce discipline of subordinates in accordance with ER Policy.

Minimum Qualification & Experience Requirement:

  • Min 4 Year Bachelors Degree (Hons) .
  • B. Eng Mechanical Engineering with Welding Engineer as specialisation.
  • 6 Years Experience
