PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Manage and coordinate all engineering operations throughout workshops. This includes system optimisation, resource management and driving efficiencies to ensure success.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Contract and Project Management:

  • Produce project plans and detailed work breakdown structures, updating continuously.
  • Provide technical advice and support to Foremen/Supervisors on interpreting customer requirements.
  • Ensure forecast labour hours and durations are prepared with assistance from the Foreman.
  • Ensure customer requirements are clearly specified.
  • Control labour hours against budgets.
  • Control costs against estimates and manage profitability of projects.

Estimation and Revenue Forecasting:

  • Ensure cost estimates and quotes for prospective clients are accurate and timely.
  • Ensure invoices are processed and delivered on time.
  • Handle maintenance budgeting.
  • Ensure supervisors understand job requirements.
  • Ensure timely quoting on additional works.
  • Provide accurate forecasts and progress at WIP meetings, including cash flow.
  • Monitor and report deviations from forecast or budget in terms of schedule and costs.

Planning and Management of Sub-Contractors:

  • Source and contract the most cost-effective, experienced, and efficient sub-contractors for specific jobs.
  • Monitor progress, update programs, and manage “catch-up” strategies.
  • Ensure regular site meetings are held.

Enforcement of Safety and Quality:

  • Ensure housekeeping and safety standards in the business unit are acceptable by delegating responsibilities to supervisors.
  • Ensure quality control standards meet contractual requirements.
  • Ensure safety standards meet contractual requirements.
  • Address quality control issues raised by the quality control officer and escalate if necessary.
  • Address safety issues raised by the safety officer and escalate if necessary.

Management of Discipline:

  • Manage team performance according to company standards and procedures.
  • Handle employee grievances according to company procedures.

Strategy:

  • Provide input into the formulation of functional unit strategy.
  • Implement and execute departmental and individual strategies to support Opco strategy.

Leadership Duties:

  • Supervise workshop employees to ensure all tasks are completed according to standards.
  • Lead teams toward an inspiring future, impacting engagement, spirit, and resilience.
  • Foster an environment where employees feel free to communicate, encouraging creativity and innovation.
  • Provide mentorship to team members on technical skills transfer and teamwork.
  • Demonstrate leadership in line with company values, breakthrough architecture, and O&L Persona.

Minimum Qualification & Experience Requirement:

  • Degree / Diploma / National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering
  • Project Management (PMI)
  • 8-10 years of which 3 years managerial
  • Technical drawings and drawing software experience

Competencies:

  • Mastery of concepts and principles of a specialist field (e.g., technical engineering).
  • Ability to manage other professionals in the field.
  • Detailed knowledge of O&L Breakthrough Strategy and Culture.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of O&L Breakthrough Strategy and Behaviours to formulate processes, practices, systems, and initiatives.
  • Networking and relationship management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, conflict management, and emotional intelligence.
