PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The purpose of this position is to ensure the maintenance and repair of all electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems within the utilities departments, including dairy equipment and CIP systems. The role is key in driving process optimization initiatives, aimed at minimizing machinery breakdowns and ensuring the continuous, reliable operation of equipment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Maintain and repair utility equipment cost-effectively.
• Perform accurate fault-finding on machinery and equipment during breakdowns.
• Complete daily maintenance activities accurately and correctly.
• Test equipment accurately before handover to process owners by completing the relevant checklists.
• Assist in diagnosing unresolved events that lead to ineffective operations and determine their root causes.
• Organise and implement action plans and provide feedback on Plant Maintenance Schedules (PMS).
• Participate in project planning and the installation of new machinery.
• Submit daily breakdown and equipment root cause analysis reports to the Line Manager or Supervisor.
• Perform accurate repairs and unplanned maintenance on all equipment within the area of responsibility.
• Provide feedback on the Plant Maintenance Plan (PMS) to relevant parties as required.
• Ensure the proper maintenance and functionality of key processing equipment, including, but not limited to:
  • Homogenisers 15, 20, and 25.
  • Separators.
  • Bactofuges.
  • Standardisers.
  • Pasteurisers.
  • VTIS (Vacuum Thermo Instant Steriliser) Tetra Thermo Aseptic.
  • Tetra Alsafe.

General Administration Duties:

• Create work orders and reserve parts for repairs and unplanned maintenance.
• Perform department-related checks and preventative maintenance according to established maintenance plans.
• Coordinate and check work orders assigned to department artisans.
• Provide on-the-job coaching to apprentices and artisans.
• Respond promptly to callouts to provide electrical and mechanical assistance to shift artisans.

Health and Safety Requirements:

• Execute and monitor the correct safety procedures during maintenance activities.
• Maintain a clean and organised workplace in accordance with the 5S principles.
• Ensure all areas are clean after repair and maintenance activities.
• Maintain workplace cleanliness and tidiness at all times.
• Ensure that personal hygiene meets the required standards.
• Maintain compliance with health and safety procedures at all times.
• Adhere to ISO procedures.
• Report all safety incidents to the Utilities and Facilities Engineer.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or an Electrical Trade Certificate.
• Minimum of 5 years' working experience as a Utilities Technician.
• Proven direct experience of 3–5 years working on Tetra Pak equipment.
