PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

Overall accountable for business growth of the sector (s) in his/her specialist area, by establishing strategic relationships and communication with various key stakeholders/clients in the industry.


KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (KPA’s):

Strategic Focus

  • Development and execution of an effective product and client strategy
  • Pro-actively establish, develop and maintain a sector of corporate banking clients and ensure maximum revenue within acceptable risk profile requirements
  • Contribute to overall strategy formulation, leveraging market knowledge, competitor analysis, and trade flows to initiate innovative deal structures
  • Drive and execute the Customer Value Proposition (CVP) and activities aimed at optimising both customer experience and profitability for the Bank
  • Understand clients’ strategic direction and long term needs as well as their opportunities and threats
  • Market, package and sell structured solutions that are bespoke to the client context, responsive to changing dynamics and meet regulatory requirements
  • Recommend improvements and adaptations to existing systems, processes and structures to ensure future viability of Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB)

Business Acumen and Market Understanding

  • Remain up-to-date in designated specialist industries and provide expert guidance to clients and CIB employees
  • Create awareness of environmental factors and market impacts on the business
  • Market to existing and potential CIB clients with the full range of products and services offered by the Bank
  • Monitor market and competitor activities to ensure new business opportunities are not overlooked
  • Stay abreast of changes to rules, regulations, and global market shifts
  • Develop understanding of the client’s industry and business, including decision-making and market conditions
  • Utilise information management systems to identify opportunities and threats to clients and the Bank
  • Ensure resolution of client queries and requests through Transactional Products and Services (TPS) or other bank areas

Client Profitability and Risk Management

  • Establish credibility and overall profitability for the Bank and the client by applying specialist knowledge to deal with diverse client environments
  • Conform to the Bank’s risk policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate understanding of risks associated with CIB clients, products, and services
  • Pre-assess business deals in liaison with credit to identify risks
  • Contribute expert knowledge for risk assessment and provide insights to mitigate or caution risks
  • Maintain oversight of market, reputational, credit, and operational risks
  • Assist in the business development process and client onboarding

Relationship Building

  • Develop and nurture strategic relationships to ensure client and Bank objectives are achieved
  • Invest time with clients to understand their needs and expectations (KYC)
  • Manage client expectations while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy
  • Drive a superior client-oriented culture within CIB
  • Build and maintain networks with sector leaders, both internally and externally
  • Adopt appropriate relationship management strategies to protect the Bank’s interest and retain customers
  • Integrate and coordinate all contact between the Bank and the client
  • Foster relationships with key client personnel to ensure a deep understanding of their business objectives
  • Balance technical input and marketing skills to address client needs
  • Ensure specialist skills are introduced to create effective solutions for clients
  • Maintain supportive, open relationships between Coverage, Retail Banking, and service providers

Service Delivery

  • Educate clients on CIB’s structure and key contacts responsible for sales and service
  • Identify and address barriers to sales and service delivery dissatisfaction
  • Ensure client confidence is supported by solid delivery of expected benefits

People Management

  • Motivate, delegate, and empower team members to take responsibility and demonstrate creativity
  • Provide leadership, development, training, support, and coaching within the CIB space
  • Manage, train, and appraise a dedicated team to develop client relationship skills
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for staff and create a conducive environment for personal development
  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance and development plans
  • Ensure all team-related administrative functions are performed competently
  • Role model a superior client-oriented culture within CIB

Financial Management

  • Identify potential defaulting accounts and recommend remedial actions
  • Carry out detailed financial analysis and develop proposals
  • Ensure financial management processes and procedures of CIB are understood and followed
  • Suggest improvements to processes for the benefit of CIB and the client

General

  • Attend to any other reasonable and lawful instruction given by the supervisor

Qualification & Expereince:

  • A commerce degree or equivalent, preferably in business management. A post graduate qualification in corporate finance, financial analysis, an IT related field, and/or any commercial field will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 7 years banking experience of which 5 years should be in a corporate banking environment managing corporate client relationships.
